Throwing

All throws are aimed at partners chest.

Throwing in pairs:

  • 10 backhands & 10 forehands to get warmed up.
  • 10 backhands & 10 forehands (give or take) with focus on deliberately reaching arm out wider or further forward so the throw is from outside a persons comfort zone.
  • 10 backhands & 10 forehands with focus on steping out wider or further forward to again stretch comfort zone. At times, motion was deliberately broken into three phases - lunge, throw, stay in lunged position.
  • With pivot foot at center of clock, put right foot directly in front to be at 12. With each throw, move around the clock to get used to throwing from strange positions. x2.

Pivoting and faking: Again in pairs:

  • Using clock from above, pick 2 numbers and fake to first and throw from second (ie 4, 2). As time goes by, numbers 3 and 9 were banned. Emphasis put on making the fake as realistic as possible so as to be exactly like a real throw - except for the release.

Engage dump: Groups of 3 in a line:

  • Player 1 has disc looking up field. Turns body so as to commit to player 2 as the dump. We deliberately put in a pause so as to emphasise the turn. Player 1 fakes and throws to player 2 who worked on catching and throwing to player 3 in one motion. Player 3 then repeats as per player 1.

Main focus of session was forcing yourself to make a pass from outside your comfort zone. Don't just settle for the same pass you have always made, push yourself to make a new pass and thus increase your range as a thrower.
