Disc Hunt

As you get involved in any disc-related sport, be it Freestyle, Ultimate Frisbee, Disc Golf or any other, it becomes pretty apparent that you're going to need to buy a disc! And, as the demand for discs gets greater the strain on the few clubs selling them here is increased, leaving people needing to look elsewhere. The question is where?

Well, before we go into how to import them there are a few clubs in Dublin who will have discs for sale in the near future - one such club is Trinity College Dublin - www.tcd.ie/clubs/ultimate" rel=nofollow target=\"_new\">http://www.tcd.ie/clubs/ultimate"> www.tcd.ie/clubs/ultimate> > - get in touch for information. The IFDA (Irish Flying Disc Association) will also be selling discs as soon as the order arrives (this should be in January). For further information email this address:

Until then there are several options, each depending on how much money you are willing to part with! The first is designing your own logo and ordering a batch of 100 (or more) discs directly from Discraft (the main disc distributors in the world & the only WFDF ( www.wfdf.org" rel=nofollow target=\"_new\">http://www.wfdf.org/"> www.wfdf.org> >) approved producers of frisbees). You can do that at Discraft's Homepage: http://www.discraft.com and" rel=nofollow target=\"_new\">http://www.discraft.com/">http://www.discraft.com and I think, including VAT, it costs roughly €850 for 100. They also over Disc Bundles of Misprints (perfectly good, well made discs with badly printed designs on them) or Regular discs for even cheaper still and you can buy only 50 if you like. All further details on the website. A quick warning - it can take a long time for delivery and delays tend to happen more often than not, so plan well in advance!

Another option is to use the company Lookfly from the UK. They're a young, friendly and hard-working company who have had a great bond with Irish Ultimate teams of all levels over the past 4 years since they began. Their website is www.lookfly.com" rel=nofollow target=\"_new\">http://www.lookfly.com/"> www.lookfly.com> > and you can buy discs directly from them OR give them your disc design and they'll go to Discraft and do all the hard work for you! Either way, they're great friends and will look after you well.

One of the cheapest and most interesting options is Disc Shoppe ( www.discshoppe.com" rel=nofollow target=\"_new\">http://www.discshoppe.com/"> www.discshoppe.com> >). They are an American company with a huge variety of discs in all different colours (buy white) and with a massive range in the designs on the frisbees. You can order bundles or even just 2 or 3, depending on how many you need. The more the merrier in my book. The discs will arrive quickly and to your door, saving you any hassle at all.

Finally, just a quick guide on prices. Given it costs roughly €8 to import a disc (incl VAT & shipping) the clubs in Ireland selling to their own players shouldn't ever charge more than €11. Most teams have been charging €10 over the past few years and still coming out with a neat enough profit. When you go abroad this tends to rise to €13 and in some cases €15 - probably not worth it to be honest.
