Amendments to the Constitution

Amendment A

Expand

Current Wording:

4. The Committee

  • 4.3 All members of the Committee shall be elected at the AGM and shall hold office until the following AGM.
  • 4.4 Vacancies in the membership of the Committee arising from resignation will be filled as appropriate by the Committee.

Motivation for amendment:

Some roles within the committee would be best served by having someone in place before the academic year begins (University and Junior coordinators). Additionally, allowing the committee to make arbitrary replacements to their membership removes the members from the election process.

Amendment should achieve:

Permanent replacements to the committee should be done by election of the members. Election of officers can be carried out at times other than the AGM.

Proposed change:

4. The Committee

  • 4.3 Committee members shall be elected at an AGM, EGM, by electronic vote or by other appropriate method.
    • 4.3.1 Committee members shall hold office until the following AGM or for 12 months, whichever is deemed appropriate at the time of election.
  • 4.4 Permanent vacancies in the membership of the committee shall be filled by an election as described in 4.3.
    • 4.4.1 Temporary vacancies in the membership of the committee may be filled by a committee appointed replacement.

Amendment A.1

Current Wording:

3. Voting

  • 3.3 Each person will have one vote. There shall be no voting by proxy or postal voting.

Motivation for amendment:

In order to enable the electronic voting as described in Proposed Amendment A, postal voting outside of general meetings needs to be permitted.

Amendment should achieve:

Allow for postal voting for elections carried out away from a general meeting while still retaining the limit on voting at a meeting.

Proposed change:

3. Voting

  • 3.3 Each person will have one vote. There shall be no voting by proxy or postal voting at a general meeting.

Amendment B

Expand

Current Wording:

4. The Committee

  • 4.2.2 Six At-Large Committee members

Motivation for amendment:

Specifying 6 At-Large members is very rigid. It leaves no room for the necessity for more or less members.

Amendment should achieve:

Any number of at large members can be elected. This number need not to be specified but can simply be on an ad-hoc basis.

Proposed change:

4. The Committee

  • 4.2.2 At-Large Committee members. The number of which shall be determined by the incoming President at the AGM and may be adjusted thereafter by the committee.
