Basic Throws
Basic Throws
There are two main factors to consider when throwing a disc; one is forward momentum and the other, centrifugal force, also known as “spin”. In other words, a well-thrown disc will have both sufficient wrist "snap" AND force behind it. Wrist snap is often overlooked by beginners, but it is essential to throwing the disc successfully.
Two additional important considerations are :
- the angle to the ground at which the disc is released
- the point in the throw at which the disc is released.
Here are some basic tips for all throws:
- Discs fly because they SPIN. The more spin you can impart on the disc the better it will fly and further it will go. SPIN IS KEY.
- Make sure you are not off balance when you throw.
- Take control of the disc; don't let it control you.
- Use your body to make the throw as easy as possible. Throwing should be a smooth and graceful motion not forced and awkward (although it may seem so at first).
- Keep a firm grip on the disc but try to keep your wrist loose.
- SPIN IS KEY!
